What is Triphala?

Also known as: Three fruits

Definition

Triphala is a classical Ayurvedic blend of three dried fruits — amla, haritaki and bibhitaki — traditionally used to support digestion and regular elimination.

The name means 'three fruits'. Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), haritaki (Terminalia chebula) and bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) are combined, usually in equal parts, as a powder or tablet.

Triphala is considered gentle and balancing for all three doshas, and it is one of the most widely used formulations in Ayurveda.

In Ayurvedic diabetes care

Ayurvedic physicians may include triphala as general digestive support within a wider plan. It works alongside, not in place of, any medical treatment.
