Core concept

What is Rasayana?

Also known as: Rejuvenative therapy

Definition

Rasayana is the branch of Ayurveda concerned with rejuvenation — herbs, foods and habits traditionally used to support vitality, resilience and healthy ageing.

Rasayana is one of the eight classical branches of Ayurveda. It includes both specific preparations, such as amla-based Chyawanprash, and a rasayana way of living: kindness, moderation and good daily habits.

Guduchi (giloy) and amla are among the best-known rasayana herbs.

In Ayurvedic diabetes care

Rasayana herbs are traditionally chosen by a physician for the individual. They are supportive, not a substitute for any medical treatment, and products should come from reputable, licensed manufacturers.

Frequently asked questions

What does rasayana mean?

Roughly, 'the path of rasa' — the nourishing essence of food. In practice it means rejuvenative care that supports strength and resilience.

Is Chyawanprash suitable for people with diabetes?

Traditional Chyawanprash contains sugar or jaggery. Ask your doctor before using it; sugar-free versions exist but still need medical advice.
